Chet Faker - 1998

Chet Faker’s excellent debut full length album, Built On Glass, is out now via Downtown Records & Future Classic. Upcoming tour dates here.

We caught NYC based 4-piece HAERTS opening for London Grammar at Philly’s Underground Arts. We’ve been kind of on the fence about this band. We loved their debut track “Wings” and their subsequent tracks have been mostly pleasing to our ears but there was just something limiting our ability to truly get into them. Live, we enjoyed them. They had a good command of the stage and we jammed to their ’80s-inspired 2014 single “Call My Name” and the soaring melodies of “Wings” and ”All The Days.” We also found new appreciation for synthy, sway-inducing ”Hemiplegia.” We’ll be keeping an eye on this band.

HAERTS’ debut EP Hemiplegia is out now.

HAERTS - Hemiplegia

HAERTS - Call My Name

HAERTS - All The Days (Joywave Remix)

Over the last two weeks, new artist TĀLĀ - London-based, of Iranian decent - has shared two introductory tracks of contemporary electronic music. She’s being compared to many artists - Sophie, Grimes, Forest Swords, Shlohmo, Jai Paul - which is helpful if you need a starting point. But I’m hoping that she grows to stand on her own. I mean who is this woman - Iranian, living in London, making electronic music, and with a seemingly fresh fashion sense. I’m curious and rather than file her next to the aforementioned electronic artists, I’m going to file her next to MIA and Santigold because I’d like to see her collaborate with them.

Get familiar with TĀLĀ’s music below. Her debut EP drops on June 2 via British label Aesop (pronounced ee-sop).

TĀLĀ - The Duchess

TĀLĀ - Serbia

Fun Fact: Aseop is also the current home to Gent Mason and Wayward, and former home to SOHN (who is now signed to 4AD).

Gent Mason - Eden

Wayward - Love Jones

SOHN - The Wheel

We caught London Grammar at Philly’s Underground Arts last weekend. We also saw the British trio play live last fall at the same venue to an audience of about 100-150 people. This time around, they performed to a sold out crowd. The trio was markedly more comfortable on stage, having been on tour throughout the US, Europe, and Australia since we last saw them. Despite singer Hannah Reid starting to lose her voice, the trio powered through for a beautiful and mesmerizing set. Their excellent debut LP If You Wait is out now.

Upcoming tour dates here.

London Grammar - Strong

London Grammar - Sights (Tourist Remix)

mp3: Twin Shadow - To The Top

Twin Shadow shares new track “To The Top,” a power pop ballad that while overwhelming and a bit bombastic on first listen grows better and better with each listen. This apparent one off single is offered as a free download. Twin Shadow is currently in the studio working on his third album to follow 2012’s Confess. He explains the inspiration for the new track with the following message:

What is it when you realize that someone isn’t right for you? Or when you find that you do not and can not posses someone entirely? You want someone so bad and it feels like hell.

It’s not like the first time, once loved love evolves, and you no longer have as much control, and it frustrates you. I think because of this feeling we find ourselves constantly wanting to reset, like new years resolutions, like dreaming up moments from the past where the ending flips on its head, like true forgiveness…We just want to say “wait wait wait, this went too far in the wrong direction, can we try that again.”

Fantastic Mr Fox feat. Denai Moore - On My Own

We love the drum pattern and silky sheen on this new collaborative track by Berlin-based producer Fantastic Mr Fox and British songstress Denai Moore. “On My Own” is the second time these artists’ sounds have come together, as earlier this year Fantastic Mr Fox remixed Moore’s single “The Lake.” While we enjoyed that energetic remix posted below, it’s new track “On My Own” that has really captured our attention. “On My Own” is set for release on April 21 via Black Acre Records.

Denai Moore - The Lake (Fantastic Mr Fox Remix)

Taylor McFerrin - The Antidote (feat. Nai Palm of Hiatus Kaiyote)

Begging for the replay button is this smooth new tune from Taylor McFerrin with vocals from Nai Palm, frontwoman of Melbourne-based band Hiatus Kaiyote. Her dulcet vocals glide over the rolling hills of glitchy + refined sounds crafted by McFerrin. “The Antidote” will appear on McFerrin’s Early Riser LP, set for release on June 3 via Flying Lotus’ Brainfeeder imprint.

Gorgon City - Here For You (ft. Laura Welsh)

Is it summer yet? London duo Gorgon City delivers a smooth, dance floor ready house tune with “Here for You” featuring breathy vocals from British songstress Laura Welsh. Pure summer vibes on this one. The single drops on June 13 via Black Butter Records.

Lykke Li - No Rest For The Wicked

Video directed by Tarik Saleh. New album, I Never Learn, is set for release on May 5/6.

Little Dragon - Paris (Zane Lowe Radio Rip)

BBC Radio 1’s Zane Lowe premiered Little Dragon’s new tune “Paris” today naming it the hottest record in the world. With a danceable beat, sunny hooks, and an electro-neo soul sound, “Paris” is classic Little Dragon. It follows lead single “Klapp Klapp" and provides a second preview of upcoming album Nabuma Rubberband set for release on May 12/13.
